IN THIS ISSUE: HPS ANNOUNCES NEW LEADERSHIP TIPS WITH TODD STORM RESPONSE

THE YEARWAS 1973 In 1973, A. B. CHANCE received a call from the Marshall Space Flight Center seeking tools for the emergency

deployment of the fouled solar cell panel on Skylab 1. With a quick turnaround from engineering, manufacturing, and shipping, the necessary tools were quickly delivered. The tools finally selected for flight were our C403-0689 aluminum cable cutter and our universal tie stick head. We will never forget our brush with history of man in space.

FROM BLACKOUT TO ROLLOUT How HPS Restored Power with Same-Day Response

n Sunday, June 9, 2019, a severe storm hit Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas resulting in more than 350,000 Oncor customers losing power. Reported as the sixth largest storm in Oncor’s history, Hubbell Power

Coler D. Snelleman, the Director of Strategic Sourcing at Oncor Electric Delivery stated “We could not have reacted as quickly as we did without team support. Thank you for the impact Hubbell made and restoring power this week. Thank you for your team and everything you do.” By Wednesday, June 12, 2019, Oncor crews and partners restored power to more than 340,000 customers impacted by the severe storms and continued working on restoring power to areas with the most extensive damage. Gerben Bakker, Former Group President of Hubbell Power Systems, Inc. stated “I thank everybody that stood out as they always do. It’s really what sets us apart from anyone else in this industry. It’s the great people that we have that are such believers in what we do, and rally not only every day, but especially in times like these.”

Systems, Inc. immediately offered support to help restore power as quickly and safely as possible. Led by Brad Evans (Senior Territory Manger), Kathy Mozingo (Senior Key Account Specialist), and Dave Stewart (Load Planner), material started moving and the first truck arrived at 11PM on Sunday. Trucks were shipped throughout the week with the last truck arriving on Thursday to replenish storm stock that had been depleted. Evans worked alongside Oncor directly from their Trinity command center, meticulously working through material needs and storm orders.

6 RULES TO FOLLOW WITH A DOWNED POWERLINE

Power lines that are commonly seen in residential areas are not insulated and contain at least 7,000 volts. One should never be in close proximity to a power line that is hanging low or lying on the ground. Even if the line is not sparking, the line is still not safe to touch or be near.

1

2

3

Stay a minimum of 50 feet away from a downed power line. The voltage traveling across the ground around a downed line can be deadly.

If you find yourself close to a downed power line, keep your feet together and shuffle or hop away to a safe distance. Shuffling steps are safer and can minimize the potential voltage difference between your feet as you move away from the point of contact.

Never touch or go near anything that is in contact with a power line. Items such as: fences, trees, limbs, vehicles, etc. could become energized. Never drive over a downed power line or try to move one with a stick, pole or pipe.

4

5

6

Remember, if your power is out it still does not mean a downed line near you is de-energized.

Always let utility employees remove anything touching or close to a power line. Removing a limb or tree from a power line will not make your power come back on.

Keep in mind, a downed power line can become energized at any time. Just because it was de-energized earlier does not mean it will stay de-energized. For example, an improperly wired generator from your home or a neighbor’s can energize a downed power line to full voltage.
